It's All Changed

It’s All Changed

I have to put things into perspective. I have to be honest about the state that Manchester United are in. It’s all changed now. I think about that game against Coventry City and the manner in which we collapsed. I’d be very surprised if Erik Ten Hag is our manager next season.

As we all know, INEOS has been looking into every aspect of the football operation. They’ve been to plenty of games this season to understand just the level of inconsistency we’ve had. Yes, it’s the players, but there has also been time, and I believe the manager has gotten substitutions wrong and come out with quite a lot of nonsense of late. It becomes more about decisions than anything else.

There are reports that Thomas Tuchel could be the man to replace Erik Ten Hag. Whatever we all might think of that choice, his stock is still pretty high in football. I think he could get a tune out of Mason Mount as well. It all comes back to how much INEOS wants to set the slate clean. If we look at what they’ve done at the very top of the club, it’s been ruthless.

In that respect, then, he could be the choice to go with based on how he is Premier League-proven and has managed a lot of top sides. I actually think we need an elite manager, and you get world-class people above you helping with recruitment. It could be the right cocktail for success that Manchester United needs.

There are choices out there. Whether they’re the right ones, only INEOS themselves will know in terms of manager recruitment. It’s all about to change for Manchester United. That’s my belief after the manner in which we got that result. The clear-out will begin. The unfortunate way in which it’s going to happen is due to a lot of factors. All are not under Erik Ten Hag’s control, but I’d be surprised if a decision hasn’t already been made. It will be a decision that INEOS, who has been watching, knows exactly which players need to go, and I think they’ll work with any new manager as well.
